Giulia Negri

Langhe has been part of the family heritage since the 1800s.

Giulia, however, was born in Palermo, grew up in Rome, studied in Milan, and then came back to Piedmont.

A curious, cheeky girl who wanted to make wine her own way. She loved her ‘garagiste’ friends and their heretical wines, divorced from dogma. They produced few bottles, all creations of vine artisans.

So it was that I bet everything on Serradenari and its vines situated at the highest point of the land of Barolo, and on a team of collaborators. My family never stopped me from doing anything. Today, Barologirl has matured into a philosophy.

Giulia Negri

The Baroloboys built a vertical myth around a new way of refining wine and passing it on to others. Barologirl is a horizontal thought; it’s a revolution in the physical sense. Revolution is not an assault on the sky or against a building: it’s a celestial body that revolves around itself.

This is the small revolution that I tried, still try, and will always keep trying to make.

I travel to discover.

I breathe and value the great freedom to change any choices made in the vineyard or in the cellars, keeping faith to the history of Barolo and the history of my family, but without any reverential fear or fear of novelty. To discover is not the same as to know. Thinking that one knows how to make wine is the privilege only of those who don’t make wine. There exist no dogmas. Only those who err, those who are capable of travel through the soil, the roots, the seasons, the winds, and the climate, can find the compass.

Giulia Negri

This is what Barologirl strives to be: a compass who is aware that she doesn’t know, who wants to understand, and who only wants to continue researching wine.
